Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act
Institutions of higher education receiving federal funds or financial assistance must develop and implement a Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program (DAAPP) that includes an Annual Notification and a Biennial Review of the program’s effectiveness and the consistency of the enforcement of sanctions under the Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act (DFSCA).
Annual Notification
Every year, GW notifies all students and employees in writing annually of certain information related to its DAAPP; this information includes (1) Standards of Conduct, (2) Possible legal sanctions and penalties, (3) Statements of health risks associated with potential misuse/abuse, (4) The univeristy's alcohol and other drug (AOD)-related programming for students, staff, and faculty, and (5) Disciplinary sanctions for violations of the standars of conduct.

Biennial Review
Every two years, the university conducts a review of its AOD program to determine effectiveness and consistency of sanction enforcement in order to identify and implement necessary changes. This review is conducted every even-numbered year, focused on the preceding two academic years. The information is gathered in a report and is maintained in a repository.
