Conflict Education and Student Accountability

The Code of Student Conduct is the primary document governing non-academic student behavior. It defines prohibited conduct for students and student organizations and sets up a conduct system to address reported violations and preserve student rights.

Data Incident Response Group: All members of the GW community, with access to GW systems and information, are responsible for reporting any suspected or actual data incidents involving university non-public information.

Discrimination and Harassment Report Form

The Discrimination, Harassment, and Bias Report Form should be used to report allegations of Discrimination and Harassment based on protected characteristics, as well as related Retaliation, which are terms defined in the Equal Opportunity, Nondiscrimination, Anti-Harassment, and Non-Retaliation Policy.

Employee Relations

Employee Relations at GW focuses on maintaining a positive and productive work environment. This includes addressing concerns related to employment terms, workplace conflicts, and other interpersonal issues among employees.

If you are a staff member experiencing challenges related to performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, or other employment conditions, the university recommends the following steps:

Engage with Your Supervisor: If appropriate, discuss the issue with your immediate supervisor to explore potential resolutions.
Contact Your HR Business Partner: Initiate a discussion with your designated HR Business Partner to outline your concerns and seek guidance.

Facilities Planning, Construction, and Management: Reports of maintenance or repair to any university-owned or leased property that include but are not limited to elevator outages, Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning work, and appliance maintenance.

Faculty Concerns and Grievances

Faculty can submit reports to their department head, or, where applicable, the head of other pertinent academic unit, Dean, or Faculty Affairs at facultyaffairsgwu [dot] edu or 202-994-1620. The process for filing a formal grievance is outlined in the Faculty Code.

Grade Grievance Process: If a student believes that a grade has been assigned in an arbitrary or capricious manner, GW has established procedures to address such concerns. Since specific procedures vary by school, students are encouraged to consult their respective school's guidelines or contact their academic advisor for detailed information on the grade grievance process.

Office of Research Integrity and Compliance

According to the Allegations of Research Misconduct Policy, individuals may report observed, suspected, or apparent misconduct in research to the Research Integrity Officer at 202-994-6255, or by email at resinteggwu [dot] edu. If there is uncertainty whether a suspected incident falls within the definition of research misconduct, you may call 202-994-6255 to discuss the suspected misconduct informally. If the circumstances described do not meet the definition of research misconduct, but do raise other legitimate concerns, the Research Integrity Officer will refer the individual or allegation to other offices or officials with responsibility for addressing the concerns.

Office of Professional and Respectful Learning (SMHS Only): The Office of Professional & Respectful Learning (OPRL) oversees the process of managing reports of learner mistreatment within SMHS. Learner mistreatment is behavior that shows disrespect for learners and unreasonably interferes with their respective learning process. Such behavior may be verbal (swearing, humiliation), emotional (neglect, a hostile environment), or physical (threats, physical harm).

Title IX

You are encouraged to report sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking to the Title IX Office even if you were not directly involved in an incident, and even if you would prefer to remain anonymous. Please share as much information as you are comfortable sharing while keeping in mind that the more information that you share, the greater our ability to respond to the incident appropriately.

This office provides guidance on various concerns and can direct you to the appropriate resources.
