The George Washington University is committed to following best practices concerning data privacy and safeguarding the personal information of our community members.   The use or disclosure of personal information by the university includes only those parties who have a lawful or legitimate educational interest to use or disclose such data, such as school officials, or a person or company with which the university has contracted to process the information on the university's behalf.  

Privacy at GW refers to the handling of the personal information we collect in the administration of the university.

Specifically, it refers to the intended and proper use of this information, its proper disclosure, providing the right to access and the ability to amend the information in our care.

For example, GW comes across in its operating functions student records, financial data and health information. These types of information have privacy and security requirements. 

We work closely with university stakeholders to apply core principles of information security and privacy standards to safeguard this information.
