Each of Us Holds the Power to Decide How We Will Act

Our namesake, George Washington, lived by the credo “deeds not words,” holding himself and others to a high ethical standard. As members of the university community it is up to us to do the same. At GW, we conduct our activities with the highest standards of conduct in mind.

The Compliance Office can help you:

  1. Understand your responsibilities
  2. Find tools and support
  3. Make smart choices

Exercise respect for the rights and dignity of others and speak up when they are being violated.

Hold ourselves and each other accountable for our actions.

Speak Up

Speak up in the event of violations of the law and/or university policies.

Manage Responsibly

Be a responsible steward of university resources.

Protect Information

Use information management principles to protect university information.

Tools and Support

Make Smart Choices

When you have a difficult decision to make, ask yourself:

Does the action comply with the law and/or university policies? Do you think it is the right thing to do?

If you believe the answer to any of these questions is “no” or you are unsure, then ask for help by discussing with your supervisor or department head, or contact us for assistance, prior to making the decision.
